So you've decided you'd like to take a cruise, doesn't matter where you depart from this advice holds true for all cruises. Often cruises take off from wonderful cities that you do not get to explore as a result of the taking the cruise itself. So wherever your cruise's starting port is I would recommend spending 2 or 3 days in that city before the cruise itself. A perfect place for this kind of travel are Alaskan cruises that take off from Anchorage. Anchorage is not the type of place you spend a week in, however it has more than enough to offer for 2 or 3 days. Anchorage is home to some beautiful biking trails, some wonderful seafood based restaurants, and some amazing nearby excursions. If you are to do one excursion whilst in Anchorage definitely take a plane ride out to and onto a glacier. Anchorage is simply one example of many incredible cities where cruise ships depart from. So it doesn't matter if you're in Miami, Seattle, or San Diego spend a few days exploring your port city before you spend your time getting hammered on a massive boat.
